Justin Peavy: I work for an institutional bank, a banker for other banks. We are federating, and less worried about liability of sharing identity, the lawyers work it out point-to-point. However, the end users all have separate identities, ironically -- fidelity and schwab accounts may both be forwarded to 'us', but it looks separate to users. Main point is that banks only dance with other banks -- not independent "id providers". How many people are using openid to commit financial transactions so far? (Liberty is being used this way already, fwiw)

A. Evans (pfizer): helped manage creation of IdenTrust smartcard dig sig effort - debate about whether it's 'failing' or not, 8-10 banks? - basically still not set up for 'know your customer'-level identification, only acct #s. Citibank is apparently a big supporter of this technology. Banks are not in the identity business, they're in the money business

Avery Glasser: strong auth per FFEIC mandate... but as much as I love JanRain, is a startup in a position to be an ID provider to banks?

Justin: look at the swift model, a consortium of banks, that has shared legitimacy for bank-to-bank transfers.

Peter tapling: IdenTrust seems to have gone from a point-to-point trust model to a star network with really strong security; they never touched the consumer, and aimed very high (in terms of indemnification).

Jim Greenfield (Etrade): only some of our customers use tokens, in the future they may well be getting "better security" -- no harm of what organizer suggested might be discrimnating which customers get stronger security.
