What do you get from an identifier?
- Correlation (good and bad)
People and machines can know they're referring to the same entity. This is desireable for certain classes of interactions and undesireable for others. (Good to have a persistent identifier for IRC, e.g.)
- Human recognition
People want to know who did what. Digital identifiers provide that for digital identity.
- Discoverability (who is ...)
Provide a clear way to ask questions or make statements about an entity.
